This project was little challenge for use, but we managed to push through that and get it done. We all definitely had fun with this installation. As a whole we took many breaks in between. One problem that our group has is that we can’t work if one of use is not there. we loose concentration and feel that we are missing somethings. But, when you put us all together we work and work till we are finished… or need a break. I think my group was happy with the outcome of out installation.
We chose this space because we thought that we should have a part of Alfred in our project. The King Alfred statue does a very good job by representing Alfred. We also like to be outdoors and enjoy the nature that surrounds us.
My character is a bird. I chose a bird because birds can fly and they live in nature. We want to incorporate superheroes into our story somehow. I am not to happy with the choice I have made but I will make it work. At first I didn’t understand what was exactly being asked but that’s okay.
The most interesting thing that happened this week was that Morgan went on little trip to Cleveland, Ohio for the weekend with Art Force 5. I didn’t get to see her in person, but I did get to face time her. not having Morgan here in Alfred was very weird. Everything was way quiter. that’s not always a good thing though, cause I missed Morgan a lot!
While Morgan was away I asked my friend, Aliza who also went on the trip with Art Force 5, to record Morgan if she could. I got one video and that was good enough for me.
All of our sounds are different and none are alike. Angies is bitting into an apple, Gregs is silence, Spencers is buttons clicking and mine is jingling keys. After brain storming about what we could possible do we came up with putting all of our sounds inside of Gregs sculpture.
Potential Site
In the middle of the room- This location is important because we want everyone to see out sound installation. It also provides us with a lot of room to work with since our structure is semi big.
Next to the wall- this location gives us some privacy from the other groups, but we are going to be in between people. for our group I don’t think that the best spot for use is to be next to the wall.
References
We plan to cover the floor and decorate the sculpture its self. We would also like to cut holes in the side of the sculpture so that you are able to touch everything inside of the sculpture. We aren’t sure what we are going to do for our performance yet and if it will be silly or serious.
Materials
We have lots of materials already, but we want to cover the floor with paper (1 ), we will need paint (2), Yarn (3), more cardboard (4) and probably more when we start to work and change things.
Seeing Morgan everyday really perks my mood up. If I’m tired or annoyed she cheers me right up. When we see each other I’d say the only weird thing that happens is that I have to pull my phone out and tell her to wait for me so I can record her. But, we have fun with it.
Morgan and I are very close. I only met her in the begging of the school year, but we just clicked. We’re both always there for each other and always makes the other happy. This related back to my art work because when people see my art work I want them to feel love and happiness. I want my art to bring joy to the world because when I’m making it I work hard and I hope that people will see it and see how much work I put into it and feel the love in it too.
I first brainstormed on what I could make and what materials I could possibly us. I came up with the idea to build a wind chime of some sorts. I scavenged around and also made a trip to the dollar store to find any object that sounded like keys jingling. I ended up finding metal spoons and forks, bottle caps, a cat toy and some Christmas bells. The combination came out to be a pretty okay sound that I could use to represent the sound of keys.
The process of trying to figure out my sound was challenging. This is because when I see my friend Morgan there isn’t much sound that could be made other than talking. After listening to all my videos I finally found a sound that I could achieve. After building my wind chime I performed the sound multiple times. Every time I would “jingle” it all the objects hanging would get tangled up. this because frustrating because I used fishing wire to hang the objects and I would have to untangle them each time.
Reflection
I personally didn’t like this projected. This was because I found it challenging to copy the actual sound that I was trying to make. Other than that it was okay. I enjoyed building my piece and demonstrating it.
Close up and personal with the textures I used and the process.
The final outcome of my sounds and textures.
Personal Reflection
When we were told to walk around to gather sounds and textures from nature I got pretty excited. I love nature and all of the natural beauties that it offers us. Finding my textures and sounds was not hard at all but transforming them to a drawing was a little hard for me just because I don’t see things like that. but, I am very happy with how I used my paints to show my textures and sounds.
My daily practice is seeing my best friend Morgan everyday! This happens everyday after foundations or anytime during the day on the weekends. Morgan is in the A group of foundations, so our schedule are pretty much opposite. When I see Morgan it’s never usually in the same place or at the same time. I see her at Ade Dining Hall, when I am hammocking, or walking around campus. When I see Morgan I get really happy because she is a very close friend of mine. When people look at my art work I want people to feel happy and this relates back to my daily practice because when I see Morgan it makes my day better by seeing someone that I enjoy spending time with.
I want people to be happy, live a simple life and love themselves to the fullest and I want them to get that inspiration when they look at my art work.
My experience making/writing this manifesto was very hard for me. I don’t think I understand the print and I really struggled with trying to figure out something to do for this. In the end I’m pretty sure I did it wrong but I’m happy with what I came up with.
My name is Isabella. When people look at my art I want them to be happy. Happiness is very important to me. The definition of happy is very big and I want people to feel all those emotions. Living a simple life, feeling comfortable in your own skin and to feel loved. I want people to look at my art and feel inspired to do things that they never thought that they could do before. I want my art to bring happiness to others and to influence them to live a happier life.
